9:00 AM - 3:00 PM    Summer @ the Rec Counselor in Training (C.I.T) - Summer @ The Rec CIT - July 6-10
Why Be a Counselor In Training at Summer @ the Rec? Gain a behind-the-scenes experience of the Summer @ the Rec community Establish job and character references Develop new skills Challenge yourself in regard to personal growth and expanded self-esteem through leadership opportunities Gain the ability/skills needed to work with children in a camp community, after school program or any youth program. Have fun helping kids Learn to work as team. The Summer @ the rec environment provides a unique opportunity for youth to build leadership skills, particularly in assisting staff with younger campers. The goal of the training program is to develop general skills of leadership that you can use throughout life at school, home and community (not just at camp). The training received and talents of C.I.Ts. are put into action. Being a counselor-in-training is an important role at Summer @ the Rec in which leadership skills, good character, integrity, patience, and self-control are nurtured and developed. Commitment to serving the assigned weeks is preferred. If you are accepted into the counselor-in-training program, being a good example is important and will be your gift to the campers. By participating in the CIT program, you will have the opportunity to give back and help create lasting memories. At the end of the summer C.I.T. Program, you will have hopefully gained experience and skills that you are able to build on or put into action in other life settings beyond camp. The CIT program serves as a possible stepping stone to future employment with the Summer @ the Rec.Our aim is to help all CITs become not only successful camp counselors, but successful employees no matter where their future leads. Each day at camp, CITs will spend at least one block in a meeting with camp directors. During these meetings CITs will: Learn strategies for interacting with campers. How to resolve conflicts between campers. How to address problems with staff. Learn tips for employment including interviewing, resume writing, etc. Learn quick games, camp cheers, and other aspects of camp culture. Have the opportunity to ask questions that arise throughout the camp day. Practice camp decision-making. There is an application process for the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program that is outside of our online registration. Admission to the CIT Program is limited and acceptance is not guaranteed.
