Painting with Annie - Paint your Pet series • Register • View Cart •

Join us for PAINT YOUR PET in this 3 class series. Learn various techniques from Annie over the series to paint an amazing picture of your loving pet. All of the materials will be provided and all you will need to do is submit a photo of your pet before the class starts. Grab a couple friends and your favorite photo of your pet and get ready to paint the night away. 

Day 1 
Talking Points:
  • Color Theory, Color Values, Complementary Colors
Step 1: Reference photos (collected before the class and I will crop to the size of the canvas. The students will create the rough sketch onto the canvas using transfer paper.)
Step 2: Help each student identify 3 values in each pet portrait. Complimentary color will be for the background.
Step 3: Paint the background using a complimentary color.
Step 4: Paint the focal points (eyes, ears, nose, inside of open mouth, etc. i.e., any part that your eye will be drawn to when looking at the animal).
 
Day 2 
Talking points:
  • Identify 3 values chosen in Day 1. 
  • Identify where the lightsource is coming from.
  • Mix your light, medium, and dark colors on your palette. 
  • Identify the texture and direction of the fur/feathers/patterns. Go over the appropriate brush and stroke type to achieve this. 
Step 5: Apply the dark values to the Fur
Step 6: Apply the medium values to the Fur
Step 7: Apply the light values to the Fur
 
Day 3 
Step 8: Continue painting color values to deepen the dimension in the animal.
Step 9: Prep where the whiskers and ear hairs are going by finishing those areas of the painting.
Step 10: Paint whiskers and ear hairs if seen in the reference photos.
Step 11: Final highlights and touch-ups. Apply final highlights to eyes, nose, teeth, beaks, etc. using light grey for the brightest highlights facing the light source.
Step 12: Sign your painting!
