Pickleball
Pickleball is a fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It is played both indoors or outdoors on a 44-foot by 20-foot court. Created for all ages and skill levels, pickleballs rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. The Medway Recreation Department offers clinics for beginner, advanced beginner and intermediate players at Medway High School.
Learn to Play: Beginner Clinic - Participants will learn the fundamentals of pickleball: basic strokes, serves, scoring, rules and game strategies. By the end of this clinic, participants will be able to play games on their own. Pickleball equipment, etiquette, and safety will also be covered.
Advanced Beginner Clinic - This clinic is for players who have taken the Beginner's Clinic and/or have previously played pickleball and understand the basic rules and fundamental pickleball skills. The focus will be on continued skill development as well as strategies for playing winning pickleball. The clinic will include a mix of drills and game play.
Specialty Clinic: Dinks - This clinic will focus on shots at the non-volley zone (kitchen). Dinking technique and strategy will be taught and practiced through a series of drills. The clinic will end with full games.
Specialty Clinic: Third Shots: Drops and Dives - This clinic will focus on one of the most important shots - the third shot. Technique for both drives and drops will be taught and practiced through a series of drills and games
Up/Down River Playing Clinic - A playing clinic which provides a competitive game format, Up/Down River is a combination of games with different players and skill development game - all in a fun atmosphere. Participants play games in 12-minute increments. At the end of the game, the winning team on each court moves up, and the other team moves down. Coaching support on skills and game strategy is provided during play and between games. Participants must have either taken a beginner/advanced beginner lesson and/or have pickleball playing experience and know the basic rules/scoring.
