Conservation Commission and Open Space Committee Host Invasive Species Identification and Eradication Technique Class

Bridget Graziano, Conservation Agent, and Jim Wickis, Open Space Committee, will lead participants on a walk to learn about some of Medway’s most serious invasive plants, and what you can do about them.

In this outdoor class, you will learn how to identify invasive plants in Medway and take home an identification kit. The goal for this class is to take what you have learned and apply it at home or as a volunteer. After just a few weeks of using the ID kit, you will be surprised at how many invasives there are around us.

This class will be presented in two parts, for attendees from the May 2023 Class,  the first part of the class will cover four species (burning bush, barberry, Japanese knotweed and common buckthorn)  not discussed previously, and the second half will review species covered in the May 2023 class for those participants who have never taken the class, the following species will be discussed, autumn olive, oriental bittersweet, glossy buckthorn, garlic mustard, multiflora rose, and bush honeysuckle. Those who attended the May 2023 session have the option of leaving the class after the first part has concluded.

Please plan to meet at the Kimberly Drive parking lot at Idylbrook Field. Class will begin at 10:00am, so please arrive about 10 minutes early to get set up and checked in. The class will last approximately 1 hour and we hope to leave a little time for questions. This event is free, but please register so we know how many to plan for.
